Civic Attitudes International Conference

Marrakech, January 29-30, 2008

To further enhance the Civic Education Partnership Initiative (CEPI), the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, Staff Training, and Scientific Research, Hassan II University –Mohammedia, the Moroccan Center for Civic Education, Bowling Green State University, Ohio, USA and the Center for Civic Education, California, USA are organizing the International Conference on Civic Education in Practice at Kenzi Semiramis Hotel, Marrakech, from January 29th and 30th, 2008.

 This international conference aims:

  • to disseminate and exchange information about the projects and activities carried out by Civic Education Partnership Initiative (CEPI);

  • to launch the CEPI program;

  • to promote greater understanding of cutting-edge approaches, techniques, and methodologies that can be applied to promote civic education within schools;

  • to disseminate and exchange information on, and experiences in, the integration of civic conduct within curricula worldwide;

  • to design a white paper on the development and follow-up of civic education curricula and programs.

Central, regional and provincial executives of the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, Staff Training, and Scientific, national and international experts in civic education will participate in this international conference.

This international conference is part of the ongoing efforts made by the Moroccan State, education and training bodies, and institutions, non-governmental associations to further promote human rights, active citizenship and civic conduct nationwide.

The conference will make reference and discuss the recommendations set forth by the Higher Council for Education at the National Colloquium on School and Civic Conduct held in May 2007.

The first day of the conference will consist of:

  • The Higher Council for Education’s perpectives on civic education.

  • Islam and civic conduct.

  • The role of teacher training schools in promoting civic conduct.

  • International orientations and experiences in civic education.

  • Research and evaluation issues in civic education.

 
The second day of the conference will consist of concurent workshops on the following issues:

  • The design of a white paper on civic education.

  • Ways and means of integrating Civic Education Partnership Initiative (CEPI) within schools.

  • Civic Education Partnership Initiative (CEPI) and higher education.

The conference will close with the presentation of the reports and recommendations. 

The Civic Education Partnership Initiative, which is a three-year program, is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Middle East Partnership Initiative, and Higher Education for Development (HED).
