Thirteenth World Congress on Civic Education

The thirteenth World Congress on Civic Education entitled “Civic Education: Reconciling our Past, Building a Democratic Future” will be held in Cape Town, South Africa from May 27 – June 1, 2009.

The Center for Civic Education is pleased to announce the thirteenth World Congress on Civic Education to be held in Cape Town, South Africa from May 27 – June 1, 2009. The World Congress in South Africa is co-hosted by the Centre for Community and Educational Development, in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Education. The theme for this year’s Congress will be “Civic Education: Reconciling our Past, Building a Democratic Future.”

The purpose of this event is to enable both international and U.S. participants to exchange and share “best practices” in education for democracy programs. The meetings provide the opportunity to encourage interactive participation in thematic workshops designed to strengthen civic education and civic culture. Highlights of the agenda also include presentations on the civic education programs, projects, and activities administered in South Africa by the Centre for Community and Organizational Development. We anticipate that the Congress will include more than 200 participants from as many as 70 countries and 28 U.S. states.
